Software Engineering Internship (Summer 2027)

About the role

Two Sigma seeks software engineering interns for a 10-week Summer 2027 program in its Soho-based New York City office. Interns join a general Software Engineering role, receive a mentor, complete one project, and present their work. Projects span scalable infrastructure, reliability, data ingestion, trading systems, and productivity tools.

Program Experience

• The 10-week summer internship takes place at Two Sigma’s Soho-based New York City office.
• Interns partner with an assigned mentor and work on one project throughout the program.
• Each project culminates in a final presentation.
• Interns may attend company events, brown-bag lunches, guest speakers, and intern-specific social events.
• Interns are hired into a general Software Engineering role and matched with a team two to three months before starting.

Responsibilities

• Build infrastructure supporting engineering teams, including distributed storage and public and private cloud environments.
• Help ensure reliability of mission-critical products and systems, including the main trading system.
• Develop tools and environments for testing and deploying quantitative strategies.
• Build and maintain low-latency, high-performance infrastructure for trade execution.
• Build and scale infrastructure ingesting data from more than 10,000 sources daily.
• Partner with corporate teams to develop productivity and efficiency tools, systems, and products.

Requirements

• Coursework toward a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in a technical or quantitative field.
• Experience with Java, C, C++, Python, Ruby, Perl, or other JVM-targeting languages.
• Experience with large-scale systems and exceptional programming skills.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Passion for building quality software.
• Financial experience is not required.
