About the role
Data Engineer internship/co-op in Scotiabank’s Velocity Program, based in Toronto from January to April 2027. The role focuses on data exploration, model operationalization, pipeline automation, monitoring, platform migration, and collaboration with data science, technology, security, privacy, and other stakeholders. The 37.5-hour weekly placement includes training and ongoing coaching.
Responsibilities
- Explore data sources and support model training.
- Productionalize advanced analytics models according to bank standards.
- Automate data pipelines and trigger actions or events supporting business processes.
- Enable stakeholders and data scientists to monitor model performance.
- Monitor model runtimes and optimize models with data scientists.
- Monitor pipelines, liaise with vendors, and migrate pipelines and models to new analytics platforms.
Technical Environment
- Big data technologies: Hive/Beeline, HDFS, Sqoop, and Spark.
- Cloud platforms: GCP, Azure, or AWS; MinIO; Airflow; and Trino.
- Databases and querying: DB2, SQL Server, and SQL.
- Programming and scripting: Python, PyHive, PySpark, R, Bash, Korn, and Linux/Unix.
- CI/CD technologies: Bitbucket, Jenkins, and Artifactory.
