About the role

Winter 2027 internship/co-op supporting internal controls across Scotiabank’s Global Banking and Markets business. Opportunities include Global Governance and First Line Testing, covering control standards, communications surveillance, risk analysis, process walkthroughs, and issue reporting. The Toronto term runs January through April 2027, with training, coaching, and student development opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Support oversight and control across the Bank’s Global Banking and Markets business line globally.
  • Identify risks, control enhancement opportunities, and potential weaknesses in business-line controls.
  • Review policies and procedures, support walkthroughs, document processes, and report findings and issues.
  • Analyze patterns, themes, and trends indicating weaknesses or gaps in control execution.
  • Identify underlying causes of control breakdowns or inadequate controls.

Global Governance Role

  • Develop global solutions, standards, and operating principles while liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Help enhance voice and e-communications controls, governance, surveillance training, technology, and global reviews.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts across Global Banking and Markets to promote best practices.

First Line Testing Role

  • Support a team identifying risks and opportunities for business-line control enhancements.
  • Review controls and procedures to identify key controls and document business processes.
  • Report findings and issues identified through control reviews and process walkthroughs.

Development Opportunities

  • Receive in-depth training, ongoing coaching, feedback, and on-the-job support.
  • Gain exposure to senior leadership and employees across all levels of the Bank.
  • Learn about controls, business-process documentation, and regulatory requirements for Capital Markets.
  • Participate in bank-wide orientation and student events, including panels and Lunch & Learns.
