Velocity - Data Scientist Internship/Co-Op - Winter 2027

About the role

Data Scientist Intern/Co-op in Scotiabank’s Velocity Program, based in Toronto from January to April 2027. The role involves applying machine learning, statistical analysis, distributed computing, and data engineering techniques to create data-driven solutions and support business decisions.

Responsibilities

• Identify opportunities to create business value through data science solutions with business lines and stakeholders.
• Use Spark, cloud tools, and distributed computing for data analysis, mining, and modelling.
• Build analytical datasets and models with data engineers, software developers, and analytics teams.
• Develop testing strategies, evaluate model effectiveness, and make ongoing improvements.
• Document data sources, models, and algorithms used or developed.
• Present findings to stakeholders and support implementation of data-driven changes.

Program Details

• Velocity provides customized development tools, training, coaching, feedback, networking, and exposure across Scotiabank and Tangerine.
• The work term runs from January 2027 through April 2027 in Toronto, Ontario.
• The internship requires 37.5 hours per week.
• Student events include Scotia Student Day, Lunch & Learns, and leadership panels.
• The role includes bank-wide orientation and exposure to senior leadership.
• High-performing students may receive support establishing future placements after successful completion.
