About the role

Scotiabank’s Aspire Commercial Banking co-op offers Toronto students hands-on experience from January to August 2027. Participants support research, financial analysis, credit submissions, underwriting, and transaction activities across Mid-Market, National Accounts, Real Estate Banking, or Roynat Capital while developing technical credit, business, communication, and professional judgment skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support credit and relationship teams with research, financial analysis, and transaction-related activities.
  • Analyze company performance, financial statements, industries, and market conditions for credit and business decisions.
  • Contribute to credit submissions, underwriting requirements, investment summaries, and recommendations.
  • Learn how financing structures, client objectives, and risk considerations influence lending decisions.
  • Collaborate across Commercial Banking to deliver timely, high-quality support and improve business outcomes.
  • Consider the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture in day-to-day activities and decisions.

Potential placements

  • Mid-Market supports research, company and industry analysis, financial analysis, and credit and business decisions.
  • National Accounts provides exposure to large-scale clients, multifaceted transactions, advanced credit analysis, and strategic considerations.
  • Real Estate Banking covers commercial real estate transactions, project and portfolio analysis, credit adjudication, and financing decisions.
  • Roynat Capital supports financial analysis, underwriting, investment summaries, risk mitigation, and proactive portfolio management.

Requirements

  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate degree in Business, Commerce, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Real Estate, Urban Land Economics, or related fields.
  • Demonstrate strong Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills, presentation skills, and consistent professionalism.
  • Bring analytical, collaborative, organized, flexible, client-centric, and intellectually curious qualities.
  • Be comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, structured, team-oriented environment.
  • Show eagerness to develop technical credit, financial analysis, and Commercial Banking skills.
