About the role

Scotiabank’s 12-month Commercial Accelerate program develops new graduates into Agricultural Commercial Bankers through rotational assignments, credit training, mentorship, workshops, and hands-on learning. Based in Alberta’s Prairies, participants analyze and structure agricultural credit, build commercial relationships, and provide tailored lending and financial solutions to agri-business clients.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain productive relationships with commercial partners to support team strategies and objectives.
  • Develop internal and external networks to identify business opportunities and grow client portfolio revenue.
  • Analyze financial information, structure deals, adjudicate credit, and present complex credit proposals.
  • Identify client needs and recommend tailored agricultural banking products and solutions.
  • Apply lending policies, financial analysis, risk assessment, collateral documentation, legislation, and accounting practices.

Program Experience

  • Complete rotational assignments and coach-supported experiences over 12 months.
  • Receive training in financial and technical analysis, products, services, tools, and technologies.
  • Access workshops, hands-on learning, and mentorship from program, peer, and business coaches.
  • Receive continuous feedback from mentors and peers throughout the program.

Requirements

  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate degree in agriculture, agribusiness, business, commerce, finance, accounting, economics, or related fields.
  • Demonstrate financial literacy, including financial statement interpretation and understanding of credit fundamentals.
  • Show enthusiasm for agriculture, attention to detail, curiosity, analytical ability, and complex problem-solving skills.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally in written and verbal formats.
  • Organize and prioritize multiple tasks effectively in fast-paced environments.
  • Bring professionalism, energy, resilience, flexibility, and eagerness to learn and grow.

Mobility and Application

  • Be willing to relocate within the designated region if required.
  • Post-program placement depends on business needs, despite efforts to accommodate location preferences.
