2027 Winter Student Opportunities Technology & Operations - Quantum Computing Specialist, 8 Months

About the role

The Quantum Technologies Intern will join RBC’s Innovation Group in Toronto for an eight-month placement. The role explores how quantum technologies can enhance financial services through experiments, theory development, algorithm and protocol creation, application research, performance benchmarking, and collaboration with vendors and university partners.

Responsibilities

• Conduct experiments and develop theories supporting proof-of-concept financial applications of quantum technology.
• Develop algorithms, protocols, sensors, or networking techniques aligned with your skills.
• Research and evaluate successful applications of quantum technologies within financial services.
• Benchmark performance and document research findings, outcomes, and technical results.
• Collaborate with external vendors and university partners on quantum technology research.
• Support the broader Innovation team as required.

Required qualifications

• Currently enrolled at a Canadian post-secondary institution in mathematics, computer science, quantum information, MScAC quantum computing, or equivalent.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Python and programming or scripting languages.
• Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and stakeholder communication skills.
• Creative, analytical, self-driven thinker able to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Relevant strengths include problem solving, curiosity, leadership, time management, and strategic thinking.

Preferred qualifications

• Understanding of IT standards and methodologies, including SDLC and PMF.
• Knowledge of business analysis processes, including requirements gathering, documentation, and use cases.

Placement details

• Eight-month, full-time student or co-op placement in Toronto, Ontario.
• The role is based within RBC’s multidisciplinary Innovation Group.
• Work schedule is 37.5 hours per week.
