About the role
12–16-month PEY opportunity in RBC Investor Services’ Securities Lending Desk in Toronto. The role combines securities lending trading support with automation and innovation projects, including AI and machine learning exploration, modernization of Excel-based tools, and workflow improvements. Candidates gain exposure to financial markets, securities finance, and related operations, coverage, collateral, and middle-office teams.
Trading Responsibilities
- Execute securities lending transactions with approved borrowers within legal agreements, credit limits, and policies.
- Monitor recalls, escalate issues to traders, and coordinate with Service Delivery to ensure client sales are covered.
- Update S&P Markit pricing files and prepare fixed-income and equity push lists before market open.
- Produce reports, run re-rate tools, renegotiate existing-loan pricing, and identify revenue opportunities.
- Investigate trade discrepancies and contract-compare breaks; review specials and custody-client assets for opportunities.
Automation and Innovation
- Assess desk operations to identify inefficiencies, manual bottlenecks, and opportunities for automation.
- Explore and prototype AI and machine learning applications supporting efficiency, decision-making, and client service.
- Modernize legacy Excel macro tools by replacing them with robust, maintainable solutions.
- Develop solutions for borrower locates, recall communication and tracking, settlement workflows, and lending-program rule maintenance.
Learning and Development
- Build understanding of financial markets, trading strategies, and the securities lending industry.
- Apply programming and artificial intelligence knowledge within a fast-paced sales and trading environment.
- Gain exposure to client operations, client coverage, collateral, and middle-office support groups.
