2027 Winter - GRM, Market Risk Analyst (4 Months)

About the role

This four-month Winter 2027 student placement supports RBC’s Local Market Risk team in Toronto. The Market Risk Analyst will monitor commodities trading exposures, reporting, limits, risk themes, and transactions while collaborating with trading, management, and risk stakeholders. The role also includes projects and process automation using Python and AI tools.

Responsibilities

• Provide market risk oversight for Global Commodities and connect trading staff, management, and Group Risk Management.
• Support market risk reporting and ensure key risk metrics are accurate, timely, and aligned with requirements.
• Analyze trading strategies and products against RBC’s risk tolerance and objectives.
• Monitor portfolios, markets, trading activities, exposures, policies, and limits; identify relevant market themes and events.
• Review significant transactions and collaborate with trading teams on systems, limits, and risk management issues.
• Coordinate projects involving capital requirements, risk modernization, ad hoc requests, and process automation using Python and AI tools.

Placement Details

• Four-month Winter 2027 student placement running from January 2027 through April 2027.
• Based at Royal Bank Plaza, 200 Bay Street, Toronto, Ontario; candidates must remain located within Ontario.
• Full-time role with 37.5 hours per week and student/co-op fixed-term employment.
• Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis; formal application deadline is September 20, 2026.
• Candidates must return to school after April 2027 or require the placement to graduate successfully.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in finance, economics, or a quantitative subject.
• Education in risk management or related capital-markets work experience, including sensitivity analysis, VaR, and stress testing.
• Knowledge of financial derivatives across asset classes, preferably commodities, fixed income, and foreign exchange.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL, with strong written and oral communication skills.
• Strong collaboration, curiosity, and ability to learn and apply new concepts quickly.
