About the role

Four-month Winter 2027 internship within RBC’s Global Financial Crime and Compliance organization. The role supports AML, sanctions, and anti-terrorist financing screening models through data analysis, model optimization, documentation, and collaboration with compliance and technology teams in a regulated environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design, development, and optimization of AML, sanctions, and anti-terrorist financing screening models.
  • Analyze screening model performance, complex datasets, patterns, anomalies, and opportunities for tuning or improvement.
  • Contribute to Model White Papers and documentation communicating screening solutions to stakeholders.
  • Support data quality assessments and escalation tracking related to screening model effectiveness.
  • Extract, transform, load, and analyze screening-related data using analytics tools and databases.
  • Collaborate with compliance and technology teams on financial crime program enhancements and risk initiatives.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled at a Canadian post-secondary institution in data science, computer science, mathematics, statistics, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Strong analytical, critical-thinking, communication, interpersonal, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Programming experience in one or more languages, such as Python, R, or SQL.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with Word and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to extract, transform, and analyze large volumes of data.
  • Understanding of data visualization concepts and tools.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Tableau, Splunk, statistical modelling, or machine learning concepts.
  • Knowledge of financial services, compliance, risk management, AML, sanctions, or financial crime concepts.
  • Experience with relational databases, data warehouses, or open-source frameworks such as Hadoop.
  • Familiarity with AML and sanctions screening applications.

Eligibility and Work Arrangements

  • Must return to school after April 2027 or require the full work term to complete graduation requirements.
  • The placement runs from January 2027 through April 2027.
  • Successful candidates must be located within Ontario for the work term.
  • Specific virtual, hybrid, or office arrangements will be discussed with the hiring manager.
  • The position is based in Toronto and requires 37.5 hours per week.
