2027 Winter – GRM, Commercial Portfolio Risk & Credit Analytics Intern (4 Months)

About the role

This 4-month Winter 2027 internship in Toronto focuses on credit risk analysis within commercial portfolios. Interns will analyze data, support risk reporting, and apply technical tools like SQL, Python, and Tableau to inform credit risk decisions.

Responsibilities

• Analyze credit risk and portfolio data to identify risks and trends in the commercial book.
• Support monthly and quarterly risk reporting and respond to ad-hoc business requests.
• Conduct deep-dive analyses on industry sectors, including commercial real estate.
• Build skills across data lifecycle: extraction, transformation, aggregation, interpretation, and recommendation.
• Participate in analytics design sessions to gather requirements and shape reporting frameworks.
• Use Excel, SQL, Python, and data visualization tools; explore generative AI applications.

Requirements - Must Have

• Enrolled in a quantitative post-secondary program (Finance, Economics, Data Science, etc.).
• Strong analytical, problem-solving skills with attention to data accuracy.
• Proficient in Excel (advanced formulas), SQL, and Python for data analysis.
• Working knowledge of data visualization tools like Tableau.
• Ability to translate complex data into clear insights for non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong MS Office skills and organizational/time management abilities.

Requirements - Nice to Have

• Familiarity with commercial lending and credit risk fundamentals.
• Exposure to financial statement analysis and macroeconomic trends.
• Understanding of financial services industry.
• Experience with generative AI or LLM tools applied to credit risk.
• Exposure to enterprise data environments like EDW, EDL, or Hadoop.
