2027 Capital Markets, Global Equities, AI Engineer (16 Months, Co-op)

About the role

Join RBC Capital Markets’ Algo Research team in Toronto as an AI Engineer for a 16-month co-op. You will apply machine learning, data science, and software engineering to develop trade-execution algorithms, advanced analytics, and client-facing applications while collaborating with traders, researchers, and subject-matter experts. Finance experience is not required.

Responsibilities

• Apply advanced machine learning techniques to complex trading-related problems.
• Develop and optimize AI-driven trading algorithms and strategies for client-facing applications.
• Collaborate with traders, researchers, and subject-matter experts on innovative products.
• Analyze large datasets to derive actionable insights and create impactful visualizations.
• Contribute to projects spanning multiple asset classes and trading strategies.

Required Capabilities

• Demonstrate expertise in Python and knowledge of databases, scripting, Unix systems, data structures, and networking.
• Apply machine learning techniques including feature engineering, loss-function design, deep learning, and reinforcement learning.
• Use tools such as PyTorch, Scikit-learn, and MLflow.
• Work with large datasets and visualization libraries including NumPy, Pandas, Seaborn, and Streamlit.
• Understand probability and statistical methods, and communicate quantitative concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Program and Application

• The internship runs for 16 months, from May 2027 through August 2028.
• Students are expected to return to school after completing the internship.
• Finance experience is not required for this position.
