About the role
Join QRT’s Infrastructure group in London or Paris as an infrastructure engineering intern, industrial placement student, or graduate. You will build and operate hardware, operating systems, compute, storage, networking, and platform systems supporting quantitative research, trading, and business activities, with emphasis on performance, reliability, scalability, and automation.
Responsibilities
- Build and operate systems supporting QRT’s research, trading, and business activities.
- Measure hardware performance, investigate Linux internals, and tune production systems for stability and predictability.
- Build high-performance compute, networking, and storage infrastructure for large-scale research workloads.
- Investigate network incidents, improve observability, and automate operational processes.
- Improve deployment workflows and infrastructure automation across cloud and on-premise environments.
- Develop monitoring, deployment, operations, and incident-response tooling for resilient production systems.
Potential Team Areas
- Infrastructure: Optimise on-premise hardware and operating systems supporting production trading environments.
- Research Infrastructure: Support compute, networking, storage, analytics, machine learning, and AI workloads.
- HPC Storage: Operate enterprise-scale storage for demanding research, simulation, and analysis workloads.
- Network Operations: Maintain reliable, secure global networks connecting research and trading systems.
- Platform Engineering: Build tools and workflows enabling efficient technology deployment and operation.
- Site Reliability Engineering: Develop reliable, high-performance systems alongside researchers and traders.
Requirements
- Penultimate or final-year student pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a STEM discipline.
- Relevant disciplines include computer science, information technology, networks, or a related subject.
- On track to achieve a 2:1 or above.
- Curious, methodical, self-motivated, collaborative, and comfortable taking ownership of technical problems.
- Demonstrated interest in technology through hobbies, personal projects, academic work, or open-source contributions.
Technical Skills
- Programming or scripting experience with languages such as Python or Bash.
- Familiarity with Git, SQL, GCC, and Linux command-line environments.
- Understanding of Linux or Unix system-administration fundamentals.
- Knowledge of RAID, erasure coding, file systems, and networking protocols.
- Knowledge of TCP/IP and Ethernet, plus monitoring tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, or PromQL.
- Hands-on Linux experimentation, including Linux systems on laptops, Raspberry Pis, or custom Android installations.
Recruitment Process
