Duration

10-week summer internship

About the role

QRT’s 10-week summer Technology Internship offers penultimate- and final-year STEM students practical experience building systems supporting quantitative research, trading, investment, analytics, risk, and security. Interns join teams in New York or Chicago, contribute to real production projects, learn from experienced colleagues, and may be considered for full-time graduate roles.

Responsibilities

  • Join a technology team and contribute to real production projects supporting research, trading, investment, analytics, risk, and reporting.
  • Solve technical problems involving performance, reliability, automation, scalable systems, hardware, operating systems, or security.
  • Work with engineers, quantitative developers, researchers, and traders while taking ownership of defined technical problems.

Technology Disciplines

  • Software Engineering: Build trading systems, analytics, risk, reporting, data-processing platforms, simulators, interfaces, and static-analysis tools.
  • FPGA Engineering: Design, test, and integrate ultra-low-latency systems using SystemVerilog, C++, and Python.
  • Security Engineering: Support investigations, vulnerability research, attack-technique testing, security engineering, and automation.
  • Infrastructure Engineering: Investigate Linux internals, test configurations, measure hardware performance, and improve reliability and system speed.

Selection Process

  • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and candidates are encouraged to apply early.
  • Selected candidates complete a coding challenge focused on core programming and problem-solving skills.
  • Shortlisted candidates attend assessment-centre or Microsoft Teams interviews covering technical thinking, unfamiliar problems, and collaboration.

Candidate Profile

  • Penultimate- or final-year bachelor’s or master’s students in STEM disciplines, including computer science, physics, mathematics, engineering, or security.
  • On track for a 2:1 or above from a leading institution.
  • Proficiency in C++, C#, Python, or SystemVerilog, with interest in relevant technology disciplines.
  • Curious, proactive, self-motivated, thoughtful, and comfortable asking questions and taking ownership.
  • Hands-on experience may come from personal projects, open source, hobbies, internships, or academic work.
