Fundamental Researcher, Mi-Canvas International

About the role

Fundamental Researcher in Point72’s Market Intelligence team, supporting investment professionals through deep research on companies, industries, supply chains, and broader economic trends. The role combines primary and secondary research, executive interviews, alternative data, and collaboration with Compliance to produce evidence-based insights for discretionary investment decisions across Japan and international markets.

Responsibilities

• Develop expertise in assigned industries and supply chains, translating qualitative research into differentiated investment insights.
• Interview private company executives and industry participants about business models, competition, and changes in customer demand.
• Connect company-level evidence with broader market context to explain industry trends and investment-relevant developments.
• Produce concise, well-supported research reports covering companies, industries, and ecosystems.
• Partner with investment professionals to shape research priorities and support discretionary investment decisions.
• Track structural shifts, supply and demand changes, competitors, markets, and technology developments across Japan and international markets.

Research and Collaboration

• Test hypotheses through rigorous primary and secondary research, remaining open to evidence that challenges initial conclusions.
• Conduct research in coordination with Compliance and follow the firm’s standards and processes for interactions.
• Collaborate with sector analysts, data scientists, data managers, engineers, investment professionals, and Compliance colleagues.
• Share industry knowledge, improve workflows, and contribute to a collaborative research culture.

Requirements

• Undergraduate or advanced degree with demonstrated academic success.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to synthesize qualitative information into clear, evidence-based conclusions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Japanese.
• Ability to conduct rigorous research with accuracy, context, and attention to detail.
• Understanding of business processes, competitive positioning, and key company performance drivers.
• Intellectual curiosity, creative thinking, adaptability, collaboration, prioritization, and commitment to high ethical standards.
