Placement Structure

  • The 12-month London-based internship is for undergraduates completing four-year degrees requiring an industry year.
  • The placement begins in June and provides exposure to product areas and Sales & Trading operations.
  • After initial training and induction, interns join a particular team for the remainder of the placement.
  • Interns work as full-time team members alongside experienced professionals at all levels.

Training

  • Orientation covers the firm’s businesses, transition from university to the corporate environment, and global networking.
  • Divisional training develops core Sales & Trading skills, including relevant products, processes, and systems.
  • Group projects and organised events provide opportunities to learn and network with peers, mentors, and managers.

Potential Teams and Responsibilities

  • Work in IED Client Coverage or MSET on Prime Brokerage relationships, account activity, execution, and trading solutions.
  • Support IED COO, Client Business Analytics, and Prime Brokerage Distribution through reporting, KPIs, strategy presentations, pitches, and client initiatives.
  • Contribute to Non-Financial Risk, Counterparty Risk, and Electronic Trading Risk Management through analysis, controls, monitoring, and remediation.
  • Join IED Flow, Structured Products, Derivatives Client Relationship Management, or Stock Loan teams supporting tailored solutions and client liquidity.
  • In FID ALM, perform quantitative analysis and simulation modelling of cross-asset, economic, regulatory, capital, and ESG exposures.
  • In FID EMEA Sales COO, support strategic projects across Rates, Credit, FX, Emerging Markets, Securitised Products, and Commodities.

Requirements and Application

  • Undergraduate study must include a structured four-year course with a year in industry.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, interpersonal, information-processing, and numerical skills are required.
  • A financial-discipline degree is not essential; applicants should demonstrate a strong aptitude for numbers.
  • Applications require accurate information, an up-to-date CV, and a cover letter; recruitment occurs on a rolling basis.
