About the role

Morgan Stanley’s Institutional Equity Co-Op places students on an Institutional Equity or Prime Brokerage desk for approximately six months. Co-ops support institutional and hedge-fund clients through sales, capital markets, client coverage, research, derivatives clearing, finance analytics, consulting, and related market-facing activities in New York.

Placement and Desk Options

  • Work full-time and in person on an Institutional Equity or Prime Brokerage desk for approximately six months.
  • Potential placements include Institutional Equity Sales, Prime Brokerage Sales, Capital Introductions, Consulting, and Client Coverage.
  • Other placements include Prime Brokerage Content, Derivatives Clearing, and Prime Brokerage Finance & Analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver research, market insights, and actionable investment ideas tailored to institutional clients’ portfolios and priorities.
  • Support equity capital markets transactions, including IPOs, follow-ons, block offerings, and related investor feedback.
  • Connect clients with Corporate Access, Trading, Derivatives, Prime Brokerage, Research, and other firm resources.
  • Support hedge-fund client service, risk monitoring, operational oversight, and strategic Prime Brokerage projects.
  • Analyze hedge-fund positioning, leverage, trading behavior, market technicals, crowding risks, and potential sources of alpha.
  • Provide financial analytics, profitability insights, treasury support, balance-sheet optimization, and business-performance reporting.
