Software Engineer

About the role

Join Jane Street’s Singapore Technology team as a new graduate Software Engineer, designing systems and tools used across the firm. You will solve practical problems for trading, accounting, research, risk, and infrastructure teams while learning from experienced engineers in a collaborative environment.

Role and Responsibilities

• Design and build systems and tools that support teams across Jane Street.
• Solve technical problems affecting trading desks, accounting, research, risk, and core infrastructure.
• Develop foundational systems, including network monitoring and risk models.
• Contribute to open-source software and support projects such as Mercurial, OCaml, and OPAM.

Technology and Environment

• Use OCaml, Jane Street’s primary programming language and a statically typed functional language.
• Use Python for data analysis, visualisation, machine learning, research, and trading work.
• Functional programming or OCaml experience is not required before joining.
• Engineers may work with technologies and programming languages beyond OCaml and Python.

Requirements

• Be a highly capable programmer with a strong interest in technology.
• Demonstrate intellectual curiosity, collaboration, and eagerness to learn.
• Approach work with humility and willingness to ask questions or acknowledge mistakes.
• Fluency in English is required.
• No specific background in finance, functional programming, OCaml, or Python is required.
