About the role
Join Jane Street as a Linux Engineering intern in New York, working on real-world projects with full-time mentors. Gain hands-on experience with Linux systems, infrastructure, and software engineering in a collaborative environment.
Role and Responsibilities
- Work closely with full-time engineers on critical infrastructure and production trading systems.
- Investigate performance issues from application to hardware layers.
- Fix kernel bugs and respond to datacenter issues in real time.
- Analyze data to improve monitoring system predictiveness.
- Build automation to replace manual workflows.
- Engage in real-time operational work and root-cause analyses.
Project Work
- Spend majority of time on a challenging, mentor-guided project.
- Projects include file system resilience, diagnostic automation, TCP data collection, and infrastructure provisioning.
- Deliver real value addressing current firm challenges.
- Develop deep Linux systems and software engineering skills.
Candidate Requirements
- Knowledge of operating system fundamentals and computer architecture.
- Experience with systems programming concepts like sockets and virtual memory.
- Basic understanding of network protocols.
- Comfortable using Linux command-line and troubleshooting system health.
- Problem-solving through coding in any language.
- Strong communication, curiosity, collaboration, and humility.
