About the role
Support mathematics and computer science instruction in Jane Street’s six-week Academy of Math and Programming summer program in New York City. Teaching Assistants work with recent high school graduates in classes, problem-solving sessions, residential supervision, academic activities, and evening or weekend programming.
Responsibilities
- Help instructors deliver lessons covering combinatorics, number theory, algorithms, programming, and software development.
- Work individually and in small groups during classes, problem-solving sessions, and study hours.
- Support classroom supervision, assignment review, and other academic coordination.
- Teach, guide, and play strategy games with students.
- Reside with students, support their well-being, and reinforce community expectations.
- Lead academic and social activities during evenings and selected weekends.
Program Details
- The six-week temporary role includes one week of training and a five-week student program.

Requirements
- Undergraduate student studying mathematics, computer science, or a related quantitative field.
- Strong background in mathematics, computer science, or both, with greater depth in one subject acceptable.
- Comfort with foundational programming and mathematical problem-solving, plus willingness to learn beyond your primary area.
- Experience or interest in working with students in academic or residential settings.
- Patient, encouraging communication style and enthusiasm for helping students tackle challenging material.
- Sound judgment, clear boundaries, and discretion when handling sensitive student matters.
Preferred
- Genuine interest in strategy, logic, and mathematical games.
