About the role

Join Jane Street as a Linux Engineer maintaining critical infrastructure across on-prem and cloud environments. Work spans compute, storage, networking, and system layers, focusing on automation, production issue resolution, and platform upgrades.

Role Responsibilities

• Maintain and develop critical Linux infrastructure across physical and cloud platforms.
• Build in-house tools and integrate open-source technologies into the platform.
• Act as a Linux expert and teach specialist skills like systems debugging.
• Automate workflows to improve speed and reliability.
• Diagnose and resolve production issues under time pressure.
• Plan and execute platform changes like upgrades and migrations.

Technical Scope

• Work covers datacenter provisioning, kernel and driver management via Nix and RPMs.
• Manage production and research storage at scale.
• Integrate cloud infrastructure with on-prem systems.
• Collaborate with IT and Network Engineering on Linux desktops and network participation.
• Focus on Linux system-level engineering rather than kernel development.
• Emphasize engineering and automation over traditional operations tasks.

Candidate Profile

• Knowledgeable in OS fundamentals, computer architecture, and systems programming concepts.
• Basic understanding of network protocols.
• Comfortable with Linux command line and troubleshooting system health and logs.
• Problem solver who codes and values robust software engineering.
• Intellectually curious, collaborative, humble, and eager to learn.
• Strong communication skills and fluent in English.
