Data Center Engineer Intern - Summer 2027

About the role

The Summer 2027 Data Center Engineer Internship provides hands-on experience maintaining and optimizing physical infrastructure supporting a global trading firm. Based in Chicago, interns work with servers, storage, networking, cabling, power, deployments, troubleshooting, inventory, and lifecycle management alongside senior engineers.

Responsibilities

• Work with enterprise servers, high-performance computing, storage, network equipment, racks, cabling, power, and data center infrastructure.
• Learn equipment workflows from design and procurement through staging, installation, cabling, testing, and production deployment.
• Gain experience with rack layouts, structured cabling, fiber, copper, power distribution, labeling, and infrastructure standards.
• Assist with hardware troubleshooting, upgrades, inventory, logistics, and lifecycle management.
• Deploy infrastructure alongside senior engineers supporting trading and business operations.
• Learn data center principles involving reliability, redundancy, serviceability, and operational risk management.
