About the role
Join D. E. Shaw as a Ph.D. Software Developer Intern in New York for 12 weeks during summer 2027. Build tools for financial analysis and trading, develop scalable applications, and engage with academic and professional peers.
Role Responsibilities
- Build tools for analyzing and trading financial instruments.
- Design and deploy real-time, scalable applications for automated trading.
- Attend academic speaker series and track progress in relevant research areas.
Candidate Requirements
- Ph.D. candidates with strong academic records in math, statistics, physics, engineering, or computer science.
- Strong problem-solving and programming skills in Python, Java, or C/C++.
- Attention to detail, creativity, and notable research productivity.
- Ability to collaborate and work independently.
- Interest in quantitative finance; no prior finance experience required.
- Typically in final year of full-time Ph.D. study.
Program Details
- 12-week internship from June to August 2027 in New York City.
- Monthly base salary of $30,000 plus overtime pay.
- Sign-on bonus of $30,000 and travel coverage to/from internship.
- Choice of furnished summer housing or $10,000 housing allowance.
- $3,300 stipend for self-study materials and $4,000 for personal technology equipment.
