Quantitative Developer (Alpha Research Team) - GAM, Summer 2027 (Co-op/Internship) - 12 months

About the role

This 12-month Toronto co-op placement joins BMO’s Alpha Research Team, where students build data pipelines, research platforms, analytical applications, and infrastructure supporting quantitative research, security forecasting, portfolio analytics, and investment decisions. The role offers hands-on software engineering experience alongside researchers, developers, analysts, portfolio managers, and data professionals.

Responsibilities

• Build tools, libraries, and frameworks supporting security forecasting, factor modeling, quantitative research, and portfolio analytics.
• Develop pipelines that ingest, validate, transform, and distribute financial datasets with reliable quality checks.
• Create dashboards, APIs, utilities, and analytical applications for research and portfolio-management workflows.
• Translate models, forecasting signals, and analytics into reusable, documented, and reliable code.
• Support cloud or on-premises deployment, automation, monitoring, and operational activities for quantitative solutions.
• Participate in testing, code reviews, documentation, version control, CI/CD, and cross-team requirements gathering.

Program Experience

• Gain extended ownership of longer-running initiatives from design through delivery and operational support.
• Develop practical experience with software engineering, data pipelines, cloud workflows, and quantitative analytics.
• Learn how technology supports alpha research, risk modeling, portfolio construction, and investment decision-making.
• Collaborate regularly with quantitative researchers, developers, analysts, portfolio managers, and data professionals.

Eligibility and Application

• Applicants must be undergraduate co-op students who complete third-year studies before the placement begins.
• Candidates must return to their studies after the placement and meet their school’s co-op requirements.
• The placement is full-time for 12 months, beginning May 3, 2027, with full-term availability required.
