Junior Software Developer, Winter 2027 (Co-op/Internship) - 4 Months

About the role

This four-month Winter 2027 co-op/internship in Toronto offers students hands-on experience across the software development lifecycle. The role involves translating requirements into technical specifications, developing and testing applications, troubleshooting systems, and applying security and release standards. Responsibilities

• Translate user needs into technical specifications and assist with interpreting and documenting client requirements.
• Analyze, develop, test, implement, document, maintain, troubleshoot, and correct software and core system components.
• Write code and design specifications using algorithms, data structures, programming languages, and relevant software platforms.
• Ensure code and configurations meet security, logging, error-handling, performance, and other non-functional requirements.
• Evaluate technologies and upstream or downstream impacts; follow release-management and version-control processes.
• Work across functional teams, propose solutions, diagnose problems, and make risk-informed decisions under BMO frameworks.

Student Program

• Students must currently be enrolled in an academic program and returning to their studies after the placement.
• The campus program develops skills and knowledge for roles similar to the posted position.

Requirements

• Foundational proficiency in programming, software development lifecycle, applications integration, and system or technology integration.
• Knowledge of quality assurance, testing, test-driven development, cloud computing, microservices, and troubleshooting.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, collaboration, adaptability, learning agility, and relationship-building skills.
• Creative thinking and specialized knowledge gained through education or business experience.
• Campus applicants should be motivated and demonstrate a strong desire to learn; three to five years' experience applies to full-time employees.
