AI Engineer, Winter 2027 (Co-op/Internship) - 8 months

About the role

Eight-month Winter 2027 AI engineering co-op/internship in Toronto with BMO. The role involves translating business needs into AI solutions, developing and testing software, maintaining systems, applying security and performance standards, and evaluating technologies. Responsibilities

• Translate user and business needs into technical specifications and AI solutions.
• Develop, test, implement, document, and maintain software programs and system components.
• Troubleshoot faults and ensure code meets security, logging, error-handling, and performance standards.
• Evaluate technologies and assess upstream and downstream impacts on processes, data, and risk.
• Apply release-management processes, version control, and software development lifecycle practices.
• Work independently on complex tasks while collaborating across functional teams and supporting client requirements.

Required Skills

• Current enrollment in an academic program with plans to return to studies after the internship.
• Technical proficiency gained through education or business experience, with a strong desire to learn.
• Python development, programming, generative AI or large language model experience, and prompt engineering.
• GitHub, source control, SQL, Pandas, data analysis, troubleshooting, and applications integration.
• Quality assurance, testing, cloud computing, microservices, and technology requirements analysis.
• Strong verbal and written communication, collaboration, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Beneficial Skills

• Experience with retrieval-augmented generation solutions and agentic workflows.
• Familiarity with Azure OpenAI, AWS AI Services, MLOps concepts, or Copilot Studio.
• Knowledge of AI evaluation frameworks and an interest in financial services.
