Retail and Wealth Operational Risk Analyst, Winter 2027 (Co-op/Internship) - 4 Months

About the role

This four-month Winter 2027 internship supports Personal & Business Banking’s Strategic Operations Risk team in Toronto. You will analyze data, improve processes, test controls, support risk governance, leverage Microsoft Copilot, and deliver insights to senior stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Support data-driven risk management, process improvement, and operational excellence initiatives.
• Analyze large datasets, manage databases, and support forecasting or data visualization under governance standards.
• Support strategic initiatives, change management, governance reporting, and key risk indicator monitoring.
• Test control design through observation, inspection, replication, or recalculation.
• Review processes, identify mitigation opportunities, propose controls, and track corrective actions.
• Leverage Microsoft Copilot and develop tools, checklists, communications, and governance documentation.

Governance and Stakeholder Support

• Advise assigned business groups on control framework implementation, including effective challenge.
• Coordinate oversight activities, training needs, regulatory administration, and policy updates.
• Interpret new or changing regulations and assess impacts on governance frameworks.
• Improve consistency and transparency of control measurements, metrics, and reporting with stakeholders.
• Build relationships, align stakeholders, and deliver data-driven insights and recommendations to senior stakeholders.
• Work mostly independently while diagnosing and solving problems within established guidelines.

Requirements

• Typically, three to five years of relevant experience and a related post-secondary degree, or equivalent education and experience.
• In-depth knowledge of the business and regulatory environment.
• In-depth knowledge and experience with risk policy and quality control testing frameworks.
• In-depth verbal and written communication, collaboration, analytical, problem-solving, and influencing skills.
