About the role
Join Barclays in Glasgow for a 10-week Technology Developer Summer Internship, working on real software projects supporting business, platform, and technology capabilities. You’ll gain hands-on experience designing, developing, testing, and maintaining systems, receive job-based training, collaborate with colleagues, and potentially progress to a graduate programme in the same location.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, improve, and maintain software using industry-aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools.
- Deliver scalable, maintainable, and performant solutions supporting Barclays’ customers and colleagues.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to define requirements and develop integrated solutions.
- Participate in code reviews, knowledge sharing, and practices that promote high-quality software development.
- Apply secure coding practices and effective unit testing to improve software reliability and protect sensitive data.
- Potential technologies include Java, C++, C#, Python, SQL, JavaScript, TypeScript, containers, DevOps, cloud, and machine learning.

- The summer internship lasts 10 weeks and includes hands-on experience on real projects.
- The Expert Programme is a targeted, fast-track programme lasting one year.
- Job-based bespoke training begins immediately and supports development of specialist technical expertise.
- The role is based in Glasgow, with hybrid working opportunities at the Barclays campus.
- A successful return offer would be for the same location as the internship.
Requirements
- Applicants must be in their penultimate year of university and graduating in 2028.
- Demonstrate genuine interest in technology, strong problem-solving skills, and motivation to deliver innovative solutions.
- Candidates requiring UK visa sponsorship may be considered if they meet Skilled Worker visa eligibility criteria.
- Candidates without sponsorship eligibility must have full-time UK work rights from June 2027 through August 2027.
