About the role

Permanent, full-time Barclays apprenticeship in Glasgow for a Technology Developer. You will design, develop and improve software while working toward a Software Engineering Graduate Apprenticeship qualification. The programme combines paid employment, practical engineering experience and structured support, with an advertised annual salary of £25,200 plus benefits.

Role and responsibilities

• Develop scalable, maintainable and high-performing software using industry-aligned languages, frameworks and tools.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers and engineers to define requirements and solution strategies.
• Participate in code reviews and promote code quality, collaboration and knowledge sharing.
• Apply secure coding practices to protect sensitive data and reduce vulnerabilities.
• Implement unit testing to support reliable, readable and well-designed code.
• Manage assigned work, follow procedures, escalate policy breaches and strengthen relevant controls.

Programme and support

• Work full-time in a permanent role while earning a Software Engineering Graduate Apprenticeship qualification.
• Combine theoretical learning with practical software engineering work and experience.
• Receive support from a Programme Support Manager, People Leader and specialist subject expert.
• The apprenticeship may change if another qualification becomes more relevant to the role.

Eligibility requirements

• Achieve SQA Highers at BBBB or above by S6, including Maths and two Science subjects.
• Meet applicable UK Government apprentice funding requirements, including the relevant three-year residence requirement.
• Have the legal right to work for the programme's full duration without visa-related gaps.
• Reside in Scotland from 1 August 2027 and remain eligible from August 2027 to August 2031.
• Have no previous study, training, qualifications, apprenticeship, relevant prior learning or funding affecting eligibility.
• Demonstrate commitment, enthusiasm, willingness to work hard and readiness to think differently.

• Barclays will review applications before inviting eligible candidates to online assessments.
• Candidates will complete an eligibility survey after the online assessments.
• In-person assessment days include a group activity and interview from October 2026.
• Applicants will receive the outcome and feedback after the assessment process.
