About the role

Barclays’ Northampton programme combines permanent, full-time employment with a Digital & Technology Solutions Professional Degree Apprenticeship. You’ll develop software engineering skills, collaborate with experienced teams, and help build reliable, secure digital services while earning £25,200 annually. The programme is aimed at school leavers and career changers.

Role and responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and improve software using industry-aligned programming languages, frameworks, tools, and engineering methodologies.
  • Build scalable, maintainable, and performance-optimised software solutions for business, platform, and technology capabilities.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to define requirements and develop aligned solution strategies.
  • Participate in code reviews, knowledge sharing, unit testing, and secure coding practices to improve software quality.
  • Work within defined procedures, support operational execution, manage risks, and escalate policy breaches when required.

Programme and support

  • Work full-time in a permanent role while studying toward a Digital & Technology Solutions Professional Degree Apprenticeship.
  • Learn software engineering practices and collaborate with experienced technology teams to create reliable, secure digital services.
  • Receive support from a Programme Support Manager, People Leader, and specialist subject-matter expert.
  • The apprenticeship qualification may change before starting if another qualification becomes more relevant to the role.

Eligibility and requirements

  • Hold three A-levels at BBB, or equivalent qualifications.
  • Have GCSE Mathematics and English Language at grades A*–C or 9–4, or equivalent.
  • Meet applicable Government apprentice funding requirements, including the relevant three-year residence requirement or exceptions.
  • Have the legal right to work throughout the programme without gaps or reliance on future visa applications.
  • Have no prior study, training, qualifications, apprenticeship, learning, work experience, or funding that affects eligibility.
  • Demonstrate commitment and enthusiasm, with readiness to work hard, develop, and think differently.

Application process

  • Application review is followed by online assessments and an eligibility survey.
  • Attend an in-person assessment day involving a group activity and interview from October 2026.
  • Barclays will communicate the outcome and provide feedback after assessment.
