About the role

Barclays’ 10-week Northampton summer internship offers penultimate-year students hands-on experience across retail, business and customer banking. Interns support research, customer-focused initiatives, product development and strategic decision-making while receiving tailored training, mentoring, feedback and networking opportunities. Successful interns may receive a graduate programme return offer at the same location.

Role and responsibilities

• Support day-to-day retail banking activities by providing insights for senior colleagues’ decisions and strategic initiatives.
• Conduct research projects, prepare presentations and reports, and help implement findings across retail banking.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business initiatives and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Develop business cases and support the deployment and launch of new products and services.
• Support client relationships and customer service by answering questions, processing transactions and resolving complaints.
• Contribute to financial models and strategies that support retail banking decision-making.

Training and development

• Participate in tailored training and development programmes to build relevant skills and knowledge.

• Take part in volunteering and build relationships with peers and business leaders.

Requirements

• Be in your penultimate year of university and graduating in 2028.
• Demonstrate enthusiasm, drive and a sharp eye for spotting opportunities and solving problems.
• Bring an ambitious, solutions-focused mindset centred on clients and customer needs.

Location and work eligibility

• The internship is based in Northampton, with the location indicated in the job title.
• Barclays accepts applicants requiring UK visa sponsorship if they meet skilled worker visa eligibility criteria.
• Applicants without sponsorship eligibility must have full-time UK work rights from June through August 2027.
• Any graduate programme return offer will be based at the same location as the internship.
