About the role

A 10-week London internship with Barclays Internal Audit, offering hands-on experience in audit planning, fieldwork, control testing, issue reporting and risk assessment. Interns work alongside experienced colleagues, gain insight into bank operations, and develop skills supporting governance, risk management and effective controls.

Responsibilities

• Help plan audits by documenting scope, processes, risks, controls and testing strategies.
• Perform audit fieldwork, test key controls and assess their design and effectiveness.
• Discuss audit findings, confirm factual accuracy and document management action plans.
• Monitor risks, issues and business changes, challenging conclusions where appropriate.
• Complete work in line with regulatory requirements, Barclays policies and internal procedures.
• Contribute to risk assessment activities and recommend improvements where appropriate.

About the Programme

• Work in Barclays Internal Audit, an independent control function and third line of defence.
• Support objective assurance and challenge for the Board and Executive Management.
• Gain exposure to governance, risk management, controls, data analytics and specialist audit areas.
• Work alongside experts and build skills, knowledge and experience for a potential financial services career.
• The role is based in Barclays’ London hub in Canary Wharf.

Eligibility and Candidate Profile

• Applicants must be in their penultimate university year and graduating in 2028.
• Students from all academic backgrounds are welcome; a STEM degree is not essential.
• Strong analytical ability, willingness to learn and readiness to take on challenges are valued.
• Effective time management, relationship-building and teamwork skills are desirable.
• Applicants must have UK work permission for the full internship period, unless eligible for sponsorship.

Work Authorisation

• Barclays accepts applicants requiring UK visa sponsorship who meet Skilled Worker visa eligibility criteria.
• Applicants without sponsorship eligibility must have their own full-time UK work right from June to August 2027.
• Successful applicants receiving a graduate return offer will retain their internship location.
