About the role
Ten-week Barclays Internal Audit summer internship in Knutsford for penultimate-year students graduating in 2028. You will support audit planning, fieldwork, control testing, issue writing and risk assessment while gaining insight into governance, risk management and controls across a global bank. Applicants from all academic backgrounds are encouraged.
Role
- Support audits aligned with Barclays’ standards and objectives by providing accurate information and recommendations.
- Work within an independent control function assessing governance, risk management and controls across business areas.
- Gain experience with Internal Audit specialists using data analytics and technology to enhance assurance activities.
Responsibilities
- Help plan audits by documenting scope, process understanding, risks, controls and testing strategies.
- Complete fieldwork by testing key controls and assessing their design and effectiveness.
- Discuss audit issues with colleagues and agree their factual accuracy.
- Write audit issues and record management action plans.
- Monitor risks, issues and changes across relevant business units.
- Challenge auditees appropriately and contribute to risk assessment activities while following policies and regulations.
Requirements
- Be in your penultimate year of university and graduating in 2028.
- Applicants from all academic backgrounds are welcome; a STEM degree is not essential.
- Demonstrate analytical ability, willingness to learn and readiness to take on new challenges.
- Manage time effectively, build strong relationships and work well within a team.
- Meet UK work authorisation requirements, including skilled-worker visa eligibility or independent full-time work rights.

- Successful interns may receive a graduate-programme return offer at the same location.
