About the role
Year-round IT Operations Automation & AI internship in Milwaukee, supporting teams that operate and protect Baird’s technology environment. The intern will identify efficiency opportunities, test automation and AI-enabled solutions, document outcomes, and develop technical skills through coaching, rotations, job shadowing, and progressively greater project ownership.
Responsibilities
- Learn how IT Operations and Infrastructure teams support Baird through rotations, job shadowing, and scoped projects.
- Identify manual, repetitive, or high-value work that could benefit from automation.
- Build and test appropriately scoped automations using approved tools.
- Explore approved AI capabilities for documentation, data extraction, analysis, and repeatable workflows.
- Apply data protection, access controls, testing, change management, auditability, and service reliability principles.
- Document work, communicate progress, present findings, and support operational handoffs.
Program Details
- Hybrid schedule: three days weekly in Baird’s downtown Milwaukee office and two days remotely.
- Work full time during summer, for 37.5–40 hours weekly, and part time during semesters, for 15–20 hours.
- Seeking a local student who can start in June 2027.
- This is a year-round internship with summer and school-semester working arrangements.
Training & Development
- Receive regular coaching, technical reviews, mentorship, and subject-matter-expert support.
- Participate in rotations, job shadowing, hands-on projects, networking, professional development, and team events.
- Increase work complexity and ownership as skills develop, producing recommendations, prototypes, or production-ready automations.
Requirements
- Pursuing an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in information technology, information systems, computer science, or a related field.
- Anticipated graduation date of May 2028 or later.
- Introductory exposure to scripting, programming, or low-code tools through coursework, projects, or independent learning.
- Strong communication, organization, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Curiosity about infrastructure, automation, AI, and applying technology to business problems; willingness to learn unfamiliar technologies.
- Must not require employment visa sponsorship now or in the future.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with PowerShell, Python, or Node.js.
- Experimentation with automation, copilots, or generative AI.
